April 27-30, Saint John, New Brunswick: The Summit will bring together 10 young indigenous artists from all four Atlantic Provinces to work with facilitators Natalie Sappier (Fredericton, NB) and Moe Clark (Montréal, QC). Summit participants will have an opportunity to attend some music industry sessions taking place as part of the East Coast Music Association’s annual conference, and will also participate in their own facilitated sessions focusing on professional and artistic development, teaching artistry and community leadership, and what it means to be an indigenous artist in Canada right now.
The young musicians will present Indigenous Voices Rising: Spiqitaqotal, an emerging artist showcase performance on April 30 at the BMO Studio Theatre, 112 Princess Street in Saint John. This performance will take place from 12 pm until 1:30 pm.
This will be a multi-genre event, featuring young indigenous musicians from all four Atlantic provinces. The performance will showcase collaborations and solos incorporating hip-hop, folk, blues, and traditional indigenous musical styles, to celebrate the diverse range of emerging indigenous talent in Atlantic Canada.
Admission is free and both hot and cold beverages suitable for an all-ages event will be available on site. The public is warmly invited to attend!
