National Arts Centre is Seeking its Next President and CEO
The National Arts Centre (NAC) is seeking a new President and CEO to lead Canada’s home for the performing arts in Ottawa. The NAC has a proven track record as a catalyst for performance, creation and learning across Canada. With a budget of just over $70 million, the NAC is one of Canada’s largest performing arts organizations, and is the only bilingual, multi-disciplinary arts organization with the mandate to promote the performing arts not only in the national capital region, but also across the country.
More than 1,300 performances are presented each year at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, and more than 1.2 million people come to the NAC for all events.
The National Arts Centre’s historic Architectural and Production Renewal projects are nearly complete, which has added 60,000 square feet of new space with one of the most beautiful views of the nation’s capital, as well as production upgrades to all of the four stages of the NAC. The next leader of the NAC will benefit from the transformation of the institution both architecturally and artistically.
The NAC has six artistic disciplines led by one of the strongest teams in North America including: Kevin Loring, the Artistic Director of the NAC’s Indigenous Theatre; Brigitte Haentjens, the Artistic Director of the NAC’s French Theatre; Jillian Keiley, the Artistic Director of the NAC’s English Theatre; Alexander Shelley, the Music Director of the NAC Orchestra; Cathy Levy, the Executive Producer of NAC Dance; and Heather Gibson, the Executive Producer of NAC Presents an all Canadian contemporary music series.
In November 2017, the NAC opened a new Creation Fund led by Executive Director Heather Moore, the $25 million fund will invest in bold new works of Music, Dance and Theatre. The NAC also has an ambitious national arts education programme run by the NAC’s Director of Music Education, Genevieve Cimon.
The NAC’s next leader will inherit a talented Senior Management Team. The NAC has dramatically increased its national role over the past two decades, and has become an increasing source of pride for Canadians.
Reporting to a supportive Board of Trustees, the individual will be expected to drive the development of bold new initiatives that support the NAC’s mandate on its four stages in the nation’s capital, as well as its national role in supporting the performing arts across Canada. This includes the Centre’s bold new emphasis on supporting the creation of ambitious new Canadian work in theatre, dance and music. The ideal candidate will be bilingual.
