This poetic diptych blends the established Western canon of contemporary dance with the intense, instinctive urban art of krumping to create a meeting space where traditions intersect Krumping, an artform which emerged out of South-Central Los Angeles, is known for its radical authenticity, channeling raw power through movement to overcome adversity. This rhythmic, fast-paced, exaggerated style of street dance requires battling dancers to exert incredible technical mastery using five basic moves to emit and receive energy.

Silent Legacy is an ode to the vitality of dance, to the grandeur of that silent legacy passed down to dancers on their own journeys, to connections between different people, each with their own unique story. What movement do these artists carry with them? How do they forge their own dance? This performance shines a spotlight on legacy, the world of dance and the institutions that control it, recognizing that the art of dance is in constant evolution.

How do we pass down a legacy? What about instinct? In this striking amalgamation of two styles that are worlds apart, young krumping prodigy Adeline Kerry Cruz, guided by undisputed krump master Jr  Maddripp, enters into conversation with contemporary dancer Siaska Chareyre. On stage, two generations collide and two styles converge, as choreographer Maud Le Pladec examines questions of cultural identity and transfer in dance. After having completed the Ex.e.r.ce training at CCN Montpellier, Maud Le Pladec has performed for several choreographers such as Georges Appaix, Emmanuelle Vo-Dinh, Loïc Touzé, Mathilde Monnier, Herman Diephuis, Mette Ingvartsen and Boris Charmatz. In 2010, she created her first piece Professor, choreographic piece for three performers on the music of Fausto Romitelli. In 2011, she created Pœtry second part of a diptych around Fausto Romitelli. In 2012, she initiated To Bang on a Can, a research and creation project with three pieces and various artistic projects over four years (2012-2015). Ominous Funk and Demo, around and from the musical work of composers David Lang and Julia Wolfe, were then the starting point of this long-term project. In 2013, Maud Le Pladec was recipient of the Hors les Murs program at the Institut français and conducted a research in New York on the current of post-minimalist American music. From this research came the creation of Democracy, a piece for five dancers and four drums (Ensemble TaCtuS) and Concrete (2015), a major project conceived for five dancers and nine musicians from Ensemble Ictus. In 2015, Maud Le Pladec was invited by the Lille Opera to collaborate on the creation of the Xerse Opera (Cavalli / Lully, directed by Guy Cassiers, musical direction Emmanuelle Haïm / Concert d'Astrée). That same year, she initiated a new cycle of creations around the word given to women by co-creating Hunted with New York performer Okwui Okpokwasili.

Her works have been awarded with several prizes and distinctions: prize of the choreographic revelation of the Syndicate of the French critic in 2009, prize Garden of Europe in 2010, Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters in 2015.

In 2016, she worked at the Opéra National de Paris on Eliogabalo (Francesco Cavalli) with director Thomas Jolly and under the musical direction of Leonardo Garcia Alarcon. At the same time, Maud Le Pladec has been an associate artist at La Briqueterie - CDCN in the Val de Marne and keeps performing in the pieces of Boris Charmatz (Levée des conflits, Enfant, Manger, 10000 gestes, Infini).

Since January 2017, she succeeded Josef Nadj and directs the Centre chorégraphique national d'Orléans. She created Moto-Cross (The Subsistances / Biennale Val de Marne), Je n'ai jamais eu envie de disparaître with the author Pierre Ducrozet as part of Concordan(s)e and Borderline in collaboration with the director Guy Cassiers. In 2018, she created her last piece Twenty-seven perspectives, performance for 10 dancers built around Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony. In 2021, she presents Static Shot with CCN - Ballet de Lorraine, and counting stars with you (musiques femmes), a creation dedicated to women composers in the musical heritage. In 2022, she creates Silent Legacy at Festival d’Avignon.

En 2013, Maud Le Pladec est lauréate du programme Hors les Murs de l’Institut français et effectue dans ce cadre une recherche à New York sur le courant de la musique post-minimaliste américaine. De cette recherche naissent la création Democracy, pièce pour cinq danseur•se•s et quatre batteries (Ensemble TaCtuS) et Concrete (2015), projet d’envergure conçu pour cinq danseur•se•s et neuf musicien•ne•s de l’Ensemble Ictus. Cette même année, elle initie un nouveau cycle de créations autour de la parole donnée aux femmes en co-créant Hunted avec la performeuse new yorkaise Okwui Okpokwasili.

Ses œuvres ont été récompensées par des prix et distinctions : prix de la révélation chorégraphique du Syndicat de la critique française en 2009, prix Jardin d’Europe en 2010, Chevalier de l’ordre des arts et des lettres en 2015.

En 2016, elle travaille à l’Opéra National de Paris sur Eliogabalo (Francesco Cavalli) avec le metteur en scène Thomas Jolly et sous la direction musicale de Leonardo Garcia Alarcon. Parallèlement, Maud Le Pladec est artiste associée à La Briqueterie — CDCN du Val de Marne et continue à danser pour Boris Charmatz (Levée des conflits, Enfant, Manger, 10 000 gestes, Infini).

Depuis janvier 2017, elle succède à Josef Nadj et dirige le Centre Chorégraphique National d’Orléans. Elle a créé depuis Moto-Cross (Les Subsistances / Biennale du Val de Marne), Je n’ai jamais eu envie de disparaître avec l’auteur Pierre Ducrozet dans le cadre de Concordan(s)e, Borderline en collaboration avec le metteur en scène Guy Cassiers et Twenty-seven perspectives pour le Festival Montpellier Danse 2018. Une première collaboration avec le monde du cinéma prend forme avec Valérie Donzelli et son film Notre-Dame, sortie en 2019. En 2021, elle a présenté Static shot avec le CCN — Ballet de Lorraine, et counting stars with you (musiques femmes), une création dédiée au matrimoine musical. Et en 2022, elle crée Silent Legacy au Festival d’Avignon.

Originally from France, Kevin Gohou, also known as Westrock Aka Intimidate, was introduced to the specialized street dance style of Krump. He began training at the age of 15 years old and he has dedicated his life to it every day since. In August of 2014, after 5 years intensive dance training with the original creator and pioneer of Krump dance, TightEyez. (Los Angeles, USA), Kevin was ranked ‘Junior Maddripp’ in the Tight Eyez family. Kevin lives up to his reputation as one of the mentors and innovators of the Krump movement in Europe and he has traveled, taught, battled and judged in some of the most prestigious events across France, Italy, Germany, England, Japan, Spain, Belgium, Switerland, Denmark, Holland, Czech Republic, Poland, Ukraine, Russia, USA and now Canada. His passion drove him to Diva by Cirque Du Soleil where he was the Toro (the second main character) and also the Cyclope in Sherazade from OSM and Cirque Eloïse and as an dancer and choreographer in Brume by The 7 fingers and in many more shows around the world. He performed at the parliament in Ottawa at Canada day 2019 and danced alongside Marie Mai, Coeur de Pirate and some more talented singers. He also made it to the quarter final of the TV show Révolution by TVA, where he stood out with his unique style and became one of the top 14 out of 4000 dancers. Currently residing in Montreal, Kevin is teaching the youth and senior generation at Rebelles & Vagabons, A’motion and Studio Party Time. He is still continuing to develop the movement of Krump across Canada and Europe. Still in the early stages of his career, he strives to leave his trace in the history of Krump worldwide.

Il y consacre depuis sa vie. Adeline is passionate about KRUMP, one could even say she is a KRUMP prodigy. K.R.U.M.P means "Kingdom Radically Uplifted Mighty Praise". It is a dance inspired by "Clown Dancing". Clown Dancing was invented in 1992 by Thomas Johnson. Upset by the violence of race riots, gang wars and drug trafficking in his city Los Angeles, Johnson decided to take action. He disguised himself as a clown, painted his face, invented the hip hop clown and called himself "Tommy the Clown". After the creation of the character, Tommy the Clown animates birthday parties for underprivileged children in his neighborhood. He invented a dance for the occasion called "Clowning".

Very quickly the kids from the ghettos took up his choreography. Later, in the 2000s, some Clowning enthusiasts, such as Tight Eyess, Big Mijo and Jay Smooth, invented the KRUMP. A faster and more aggressive form of dance but stemming from the same frustration and the same will of positivism. KRUMP proliferates in South Central, one of the poorest neighborhood in Los Angeles. The founders use KRUMP to change the difficult lives of inner-city youth.

Adeline est passionnée de KRUMP, on peut même dire que c’est une prodige du KRUMP. Le K.R.U.M.P ("Kingdom Radically Uplifted Mighty Praise") signifie « éloge puissant d'un royaume radicalement levé». C’est une danse inspirée par le "Clown dancing". Le "Clown Dancing" a été inventé en 1992 par Thomas Johnson. Bouleversé par la violence des émeutes raciales, des guerres de gangs et par les trafics de drogues dans sa ville : Los Angeles, Johnson décide de passer à l'action.Il se déguise alors en clown, se peint le visage, invente le clown hip hop et se fait surnommer "Tommy the Clown". Après la création du personnage, Tommy le clown anime les goûters d'anniversaires pour les enfants défavorisés de son quartier. Il a inventé une danse pour l'occasion le « Clowning ».

Très vite les gamins des ghettos ont repris ses chorégraphies. Plus tard, dans les années 2000, certains adeptes du Clowning, tels que Tight Eyess, Big Mijo et Jay Smooth, inventent le KRUMP. Une forme de danse plus rapide et agressive mais issue de la même frustration et de cette même volonté de positivisme. Le KRUMP prolifère à South Central, dans l'un des quartiers les plus pauvres de Los Angeles. Les fondateurs se servent du KRUMP pour faire changer les vies difficiles des jeunes des quartiers défavorisés.
